Turnbridge Introduces Terrapins Ice Hockey Team

This year, for the first time in Turnbridge history, clients and staff from all three phases participated in an organized ice hockey league.

The clients who joined the Turnbridge Terrapins ice hockey team had experience playing ice hockey in their past, and this opportunity allowed them to re-claim this activity in sobriety.  “Prior to my drug and alcohol use, hockey was what I lived for,” said Phase III client, Chris E. “These past few months have been amazing and I can’t wait to get back on the ice.  I think everyone should get back to the hobbies they had prior to addiction. Getting back to the game I love has been a big help in my recovery.”

Phase II Case Manager, Martin G., was key in organizing the hockey team for Turnbridge clients. “The hockey team offered a new opportunity for young men in sobriety to explore a healthy activity that we may have been passionate about before our active drug use and alcoholism,” said Martin. “For me, hockey was my first love, it was the first time in my life I could channel my time and energy in a healthy way and learn important life skills like teamwork.”
